The Vision

shizuku has a vision…
… to give you an understanding drop by drop of the Japanese sense of life – because a drop of Japan epitomizes culture, relish, aesthetics, quality, nature and art.

The Japanese people are truly tradition-conscious and community-oriented, aptly incorporating traditional values into the present. Concerted and goal-oriented creativity, but also sociability within a group is being enjoyed consciously and appreciatively. When indulging in an exceptional drop, it is for the most part of outstanding quality.

The standard of the Japanese cuisine - also seen from the health angle – is unique as to the elaborate, diligent and aesthetic presentation of food and beverages and earns the Japanese culinary art an excellent reputation.

The Japanese traditions, also manifesting themselves in the manufacture of high standing, are being passed on and refined for hundreds of years. Those empirical values, in addition to the excellent, pure water, enable the Japanese art of brewing to brew internationally at the highest stage. Every single drop flowing into the overall brewing process is essential for the end product.

shizuku – the first drop falls… - reflects this multifaceted Japanese sense of life on the basis of exquisite drops of high quality, having been savoured and handpicked.

The sake expert

The Swiss Marc Nydegger has succeeded in building a new brand with shizuku. A brand that stands for the highest quality of Japanese products and that lives the associated Japanese culture credibly.

Since October 2013, the Japanologist Marc Nydegger shows in a friendly, accessible and exciting way how high-quality and popular Swiss products can be perfectly combined with the best from Japan - on his gustatory journey.

The Swiss entrepreneur has turned this into a mission. Sake and cheese or sake in a fondue: these were his ideas. He also experimented with other Japanese classics, such as the sweet plum wine ‘umeshu’. So he combined it with Swiss chocolate and calls the sweet confectionary delicacy pralumé.
With Mame San - his own Sake Flavoured Vodka - an innovation has emerged, in which three types of beans from Japan are distilled and flavoured with sake. Flavorful, sweet, earthy, fresh.
His latest creation: the Sake Raclette, in which he refines Swiss raclette with Japanese rice wine for the first time.

Marc Nydegger has been the undisputed sake expert in the Zurich area for years. His background as a Japanologist, his cultural knowledge of Japan as well as his confident Japanese language skills contribute to his extensive know-how about the sake world, which he regularly shares at his events, food pairings and lectures.

The sake experience

shizuku makes the pleasure of sake accessible, understandable and simply an experience for its customers, thanks to Marc Nydegger's individual advice and personal commitment.

The sake expert started his first tastings in 2014, and today his shizuku events such as lectures, pairings and private tastings are well booked.

Due to the long and good cooperation with its partners, shizuku regularly organizes food pairings in order to make sake tasty for the Asian, Western, European and especially for the Swiss cuisine.
'It was another event, it was a flight of fancy. Some were enthusiastic about the sake, others were completely enraptured by every course, by this creation, but everything was under the sign of such creation and discovery and it couldn't be better', says a customer.

The visit from Japan

The constant and personal contact to Japan is enormously important for an authentic and always up-to-date product range. But shizuku is also happy about regular visits here in Switzerland and especially at shizuku store by many Japanese breweries, travelling the long way from the island nation 9000 kilometers away.

And for years, Marc Nydegger has made it possible for his sake lovers to enjoy pure Japan with authentic events here in Switzerland, where the local brewery is also present. Getting to know each other face to face, exchanging ideas and understanding the sake product even better is a priceless experience for the guests.

An excellent example of this is the Inata Honten Brewery. Shinji Tsukutani has been visiting shizuku since 2017 every year for such exclusive events in Switzerland.
The Swiss are very friendly. And they are also really interested in nihonshu', says Shinji Tsukutani. 'I got to meet Marc in Switzerland. His knowledge of sake is of course high. But he is also a person who knows the Japanese culture very well. I can entrust him with our sake without any reservations. And I find such events very pleasant - that through sake people from different countries start to exchange'.

The attention

shizuku and thus also the Japanese national drink sake enjoy justified attention in Switzerland. Numerous reports, interviews and reportages (print, online or social media) have been portraying Marc Nydegger and his shizuku GmbH for years and praise him and the brand to the skies. And media interest is fortunately constantly alive.

So it goes without saying that we too will keep up with the times and operate interesting and varied social media accounts, where followers receive various product suggestions and regular news about sake events as well as many food pairing ideas - thanks to our newsletter, our news or on Instagram.
