MEIKEL'S KITCHEN by shizuku - Fluffy Pumpkin Focaccia with a kanpai

When the wind outside slowly turns autumnal, it's also getting fluffy in Meikel's kitchen.
Kanpai at the delicious sake aperitif!

MEIKEL'S KITCHEN by shizuku -
Fluffy Pumpkin Focaccia with a kanpai!

He loves food, he loves cooking and he enjoys sake.
Meikel - Graphic Designer, DJ and Sake Addict - tries out, combines and discovers.

This time: Still warm from the oven.... A fluffy focaccia topped with an autumnal mix of pumpkin purée, pumpkin cubes, dried cranberries and some crème fraîche with herbs. Fresh rosemary - that's it.
Aside: The full-bodied and smooth Asahimai Junmai. A Junmai made from organic rice, velvety, subtly aromatic, and with its sweet, yeasty note, the perfect umami companion to Meikel's autumnal pumpkin pastry.

Culinary conclusion: 'Autumn, it's time for the pumpkin!' laughs Meikel. 'Surely this is the opportunity to serve up my beloved focaccia for the aperitif. Soft, tart - and in my version also sweet, fresh & fruity - it goes just perfectly with one of my favourites from Marc's sake range: the Asahimai. Honestly, this sake goes actually always. But the velvety in the glass in combination with the fluffy on the palate - such aperitifs should happen more often.'

As simple. As good. MEIKEL'S KITCHEN by shizuku.

Sake Raclette - Swiss raclette flavoured with sake

Dear connoisseurs,

Great news: our new SAKE RACLETTE brings the creamy Swiss cheese classic and Japan’s national drink back together in the same pan!
That’s because shizuku and Seiler Käserei join forces and blend together...

Quality with a seal of approval
Seiler Käserei in Obwalden has been producing excellent cheese specialties for nearly 100 years and has won numerous awards for its innovative spirit. They have already received the «Swiss Cheese Award» nine times, most recently in 2022 for the best flavoured raclette.

In the gigantic cave cellar beneath the Giswilerstock - a former military tunnel - up to 90'000 cheese wheels mature to perfection. And among the many innovative varieties, you’ll now find a «drop of Japan»!

Sake Raclette – The new umami duo
The Giswiler raclette cheese is aged for at least 4 months and flavoured for several weeks with a strong, intense Junmai - brewed according to the traditional kimoto method - and literally refined.

Creamy Seiler Premium cheese meets the art of Japanese brewing
Our Sake Raclette brings a touch of the Far East to the table: mild, slightly sweet and deliciously harmonious with a wonderful umami note.

Sake Fondue | «Stöphi’s Hausmischung» with the drop of Japan

NO OLD CHEESE. It's that time of year again for the Swiss-Japanese fondue mix!
That's right, we're combining the nationally beloved cheese fondue with international brewing art...

Sake Fondue | «Stöphi’s Hausmischung» with the drop of Japan
As long-time connoisseurs, you are familiar with this combo, as Marc & Stöphi have been combining good cheese with Japanese nihonshu for years.
Only one thing was still missing: the formula for the ready-made fondue house mix. And this is conjured up, prepared & freshly vacuum-packed - ready for your caquelon!

«The cheese becomes cheesier»
Stephan Schaub - Co-Owner & Managing Director of Amstad Chäslädeli - knows his way around Swiss cheese. Years of experience mixed with a great sense of taste, a touch of innovation and a desire for new things are the result of his secret fondue recipes. 'We don't do things by halves when it comes to fondue. And this sake, it works,' says the cheese connoisseur with satisfaction. 'Our house mix gets a slightly sweet sake note, which I really like.'
And sake expert Marc Nydegger adds: 'Nihonshu has much less acidity than white wine and that's why we experience the melted cheese even more velvety: «The cheese becomes cheesier»'

So go ahead: fire up the rechaud, stir, done!
Enjoy our first & unique sake fondue at home again.

Summer, sunshine, kanpai - The Japanese BBQ

Who else is itching to fire up the grill?
Whether it’s grilled vegetables, juicy sausages, a hearty steak or a well-seasoned fish - shizuku is happy to recommend the perfect sake to all barbecue lovers, one that perfectly complements the flavours of your Japanese BBQ. Kanpai!

The Lively One

When crisp grilled vegetables are sizzling on the grill, Tsuki no Katsura Junmai delights with its refreshing smoothness in the glass. Aromas of fresh mint, lime, green apple and white peach in the bouquet, accompanied by creamy vanilla notes and a pleasantly long, slightly spicy finish. Served chilled or slightly warmed, it’s an uncomplicated, exciting food pairing partner - especially with green asparagus.

The Umami Force
If the menu is tasty, this is your drop: Kozaemon Kimoto Junmai, simply a force in taste. Brewed according to the traditional kimoto method, this balanced sake convinces with its fresh and at the same time intense, sweet and spicy roast aromas and its very pleasant acidity - ideal with grilled meat and sausages.

The BBQ Junmai
Inatahime Ryokan surprises with a salty and leathery nose. Aromas of lime blossom and soja mixed with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, tobacco and nutmeg. A very round and intense Junmai, delightful for your barbecue.

The Tangy
Paprika, nutmeg, pine needles, olive tapenade as well as smoked ham and meat pastry in the nose and oily, resinous, smokey and spicy-fleshy in the palate. Goriki Junmai is an aromatic and powerful sake with lots of umami and the perfect match to a barbecue party.

The Adventure
Kozaemon Yamahai Junmai is a veritable taste expedition! With its intense and earthy flavours and also a lot of umami a sensational sake to hearty dishes. If it is a 'Bündner Gerstensuppe' with bacon in winter, it has to be a T-Bone steak or a juicy sausage now.

Heat up properly and treat yourself to this culinary delight.
We are also happy to recommend our sake food blog Meikel's kitchen and make you thirsty with further ideas and suggestions.

Kozaemon Sakura Nama – The living spring in the sake glass

Dear connoisseur

With the cherry blossom festival hanami, the Japanese honour the beauty, preciousness and transience of life. This wonderful Japanese tradition is celebrated in a convivial atmosphere throughout the archipelago, from the coasts to the mountainous regions, such as in Gifu Prefecture.

And that’s our cue! Because when a sake bears the name of the Japanese cherry blossom sakura, we have a good idea of what to expect…

The living spring in the sake glass
On the main island of Honshū, on the banks of the Tokigawa River, lies the small town of Mizunami, home to the even smaller, fine family brewery Nakashima. For over 300 years now, Nakashima has been brewing uncannily sophisticated and high-quality sake - an art that you may recognize and enjoy in this sake drop by drop.

Pasteurised only once (nama = raw), the highly complex and flavourfully intriguing Kozaemon Sakura Nama is lively, fruity and fresh, with a medium-bodied profile and a long, creamy smooth finish.

A special nihonshu that is rarely found in Switzerland.
And a small batch of this exclusive sake is now available again.
Enjoy your toast. Kanpai!

The pink kanpai for after work

With spring comes a sense of conviviality – and a thirst!
shizuku is delighted to serve you a fresh, fruity and light alternative to your aperitif.

The pink kanpai for after work
Low in alcohol, with crisp flavours. Aka Shiso is a minty-fresh and light (8% Vol.) liqueur made from red shiso.
Its intense pink colour makes it look extremely sweet, but it’s refreshingly earthy, naturally fruity and only slightly sweetish.
With notes of dark berries, cassis, anise and liquorice, this drop is a delicious aperitif – and an absolute eye-catcher!

Pure. On the rocks. With mineral water or tonic.
Or with a dry sparkling wine for a light, stylish twist.
Aka Shiso brings freshness to the glass and delivers a wealth of flavour with Japanese elegance. Kanpai!

A fizz according to Japanese brewing art

In between, a cool fizz with a beer, of course.
With a lively Craft Beer after Japanese brewing art - that has character!

The sun rises with the Rising Sun Pale Ale!
'We define character as the interplay of balance and complexity. The more character a beer exudes, the more capable it’s of making us happy',
say the artists at Baird Brewing Company.

The Rising Sun Pale Ale: Strong, lively, with refreshing citrus hop character.
Baird Beer. Honest, natural and unpretentious, like the people who brew it.
Cheer with us & kanpai!

Konnichiwa at the 'Hanami Bar'

The most beautiful time of the year is just around the corner, and Japan will soon be blooming once more in delicate shades of white and pink.
Let’s welcome the sake spring here too and raise a toast together, with a playful, seductive lightness – drop by drop...

Floral, fruity and, above all, lively: for your hanami moment, Japan’s precious drops are already chilled and just waiting to be poured for you in style.

The fruity aperitif
An elegant, quaffable aperitif, with little alcohol: This is what you can expect with a glass of Iku's Shiro. Aromas of juicy green apples, pears, vanilla bean, white chocolate and elderberry set an elegant mood for spring - ideal for topping off at only 9% by volume.

The spring pairing partner
It starts with fresh mint & lime on the nose, followed by an playful complexity. Fresh, fruity and lively, creamy on the palate and long-lasting on the finish. The Tsuki no Katsura Junmai is a versatile and palatable food pairing partner.

The dancer with a fruity flair
The X3 Black is an intensely fruity and sweet Junmai with a subtle, slightly sweet spiciness. Fresh, lively and creamy on the palate, this sake captivates on many levels and is ideal as a versatile food pairing partner, particularly with spicy dishes.

The awakening of spring
With its fruity aromas, The Shunnouten immediately evokes springtime feelings. An elegant and fresh Junmai Daiginjo, creamy, soft and round on the palate, with a crisp and pure umami taste - a nice, drinkable aperitif, even for sake beginners.

The Sparkling Premium Sake
On the nose, sweet, delicate peach and yoghurt aromas, followed by a fresh, fruity grapefruit note on the palate. Natural bottle fermentation gives the exceptionally high-quality Yatsushika Sparkling Niji its natural carbonation with extremely elegant bubbles.

Easter brunch with Japanese bubbles

The champagne breakfast also comes in an artistic, Japanese version!

And in anticipation of a long, beautiful Easter weekend, the shizuku team has also hidden a nice drop of Japanese bubbles in the Easter basket...

Easter brunch with Japanese bubbles
Let it sparkle with this exemplary sparkling sake!
Sweetish, lovely peach and yoghurt aromas on the nose, followed by a fresh, fruity grapefruit note on the palate.
The natural bottle fermentation gives this very high-quality sparkling sake its natural carbon dioxide with extremely elegant bubbles.

Yatsushika Sparkling Niji is the Japanese answer to the sparkling brunch moment, a refreshing and fruity-sweetish aperitif drink, with a low alcohol content & perfect for any sociable kanpai or the drop to start the holiday in style.

Happy kanpai!

3 fruits for the kanpai!

When the sun peeks in, it can also come alive in a glass.
And shizuku is happy to pour!

Japanese citrus power for a light spring cocktail
Low in alcohol, strong in aroma and rich in vitamin C. The refreshingly drinkable aperitif - Japanese Style - for that extra something!

The citrus kick with YUZU!
Yuzu is a Japanese citrus fruit with a very unconventional, strong and complex aroma. Its pulp is sourly-aromatic, slightly bitter and juicy.

As a light Junmai Nigori (unfiltered sake) with hand-pressed yuzu juice, the cloudy Kyo Yuzu Nigori is pleasantly fruity on the nose, refreshing and sweet-sourish on the palate with a lingering, long-lasting finish. 7% Vol.

May we introduce: MIKAN!
With a strong and pleasantly sour taste, mikan is one of Japan's most popular fruits and is suitable for sauces, dressings and as an exciting ingredient in cocktails.
The sweet, mild, mostly seedless and only slightly sour fruits are visually comparable to mandarins, but their flavour is more reminiscent of juicy oranges.

Our Kirakira Taiyo no Mikan (translated: ‘The mandarine that shines in the sun’) is a light, fruity and sweet liqueur with hand-pressed mikan juice. Mild and naturally refreshing on the nose, the palate is pleasant, complex, sweet and present as well as intensely fruity. 5.5% Vol.

You know yuzu? Then we are happy to increase with KABOSU!
Kabosu are juicy citrus fruits, very closely related to the Japanese yuzu fruit.
This yellow-green fruit is not suited to be eaten pure. But the aromatic and intense juice of the kabosu is often used to mix cocktails or to refine dishes such as sashimi, fish in general or warm pot dishes.

Our Kabosu no Susume is a light, fruity and sweet Junmai with hand pressed kabosu juice. Mild and extremely refreshing in the nose. Pleasant, complex, racy and present as well as intensive fruity in the palate.

shizuku recommends enjoying all liqueurs from cold to cool (5-15°C), straight or on ice, or topped up with mineral water or Prosecco - for the Japanese Spritz variant.

Kanpai at the next sunny aperitif or as a gift in the pretty shizuku box.

HANAMI CITY 2026 - dropped by shizuku

They are already blooming in Tokyo: the first sakura!
In Japan, this marks the start of hanami – the festival whose name literally translates as «looking at blossoms».
Friends, family and colleagues gather under the blossoming cherry trees to eat, drink and celebrate the beauty and transience of life together – with bento boxes, beer and sake.

HANAMI CITY - The picnic under Zurich's cherry trees
As spring awakens, Zurich's more than 1000 Japanese cherry trees begin to blossom - and a beautiful activity blossoms with them!
The Harubaru Copy Club - an association that explores the diversity of Japanese cuisine through various events and projects - has mapped out all the Japanese cherry trees in the city of Zurich on an online, interactive Zurich Hanami Map in 2021. This helps you find the perfect spot for your personal hanami picnic.

And in keeping with this, the makers of HANAMI CITY are preparing bulging Bento boxes for you for the sixth time this year, which can be picked up from April 10 to 19, 2026.
Back again, of course, is shizuku's small Cup Sake Yuki Otoko - a round, powdery, fresh as well as vivid Junmai for on-the-go enjoyment.

Be on time!
The picnic boxes are produced only on pre-order and in limited numbers. Order deadline is on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Newbie? Welcome to the world of sake...

If you think sake is just 'Japanese schnapps', you're not alone - and that's where we come in. Because sake has nothing to do with distilled spirits...

Nihonshu is a fermented beverage with an alcohol content of about 15% or less. Sake is therefore drunk as a nice aperitif, with food or with dessert – just like wine.
And to help you relax and enjoy this taste adventure as a newcomer, we are happy to recommend a fine selection of nihonshu, all of which are delicious and ideal for sake newbies.

The premium drop for spring fever
With its fruity aromas, The Shunnouten immediately evokes spring feelings. An elegant and fresh Junmai Daiginjo, creamy, smooth and round on the palate, with a crisp and pure umami flavour - a nice, drinkable aperitif, even for sake beginners.

The floral explosion of taste

White tulips, lime blossom... and then boom: Gekkeikan Daiginjo! Let yourself be pleasantly surprised by this powerful and complex taste explosion. Fresh, mild, with a wonderful acidity - a tangy experience. Also available as a mini.

The hint of lilac on the nose
Goriki Junmai Ginjo is flattering with its pronounced acidity, fruity, bitter-sweet and exotically tangy. A racy, lively and expressive sake with a velvety, yeasty melt and a tangy finish. Also available as a mini.

The lively nihonshu with the kick
Noble and tasty? Then kanpai with the elegant and fruity-sweet Karaku Amakuchi. With notes of lychee and strawberries, combined with a balanced acidity and a long finish, it is guaranteed to bring life to your glass. An ideal drop, even for sake beginners.

The successful premiere in the sake glass
Still new to our range, the Tsuki no Katsura Junmai Ginjo is already proving very popular with our connoisseurs. A complex, floral, fresh, fruity, and extremely lively sake. Creamy on the palate, with a long finish and pronounced acidity, it is a distinctive, stimulating aperitif.

The round classic from cool to hot
Slightly salty, even leathery on the nose, the rather dry Inatahime Ryokan convinces with aromas of lime blossom, soy, bitter chocolate, coffee, tobacco and nutmeg. And this true classic scores particularly well from 10-50°C with hearty dishes and cheese dishes such as fondue and raclette.

As you can see, sake is not a mystery. It is a journey.
We hope you enjoy your first kanpai and would be happy to advise you personally in the shizuku Store. Because we make sake understandable, tangible and hopefully your personal newbie on the menu!
